Sacramento 1966-1967
We used to go to the local produce market loading dock. Trucks full of produce would come in every morning, Over ripe water melons that cracked in transit were 5 cents Cases of Tomatoes rejected because they were too ripe (limited shelf life) were 35 cents. a small blue salt shaker and a case of the peak flavor tomatoes what a life. We had so many water melons we just ate the center part .

Mary and Joe Simon
I about 1960 My Neighbor Joe Simon had one of those on his front porch under the eve. A lot of kids used to torment Joe who was a lonely widower (to one of the nicest ladies I ever met) so one day as those tormenting kids were passing his house throwing stuff at Joe's place he hit that nest with his high pressure water hose from a distance it blew up and a cloud of wasps started stinging every thing is sight. Joe had retreated inside the house I guess to watch the kid show outside.

Annie Haynes
Ann was a co worker at LBL she was a mainframe operator for the Main computer bldg 50
We struck up a friendship, I was single . We would often zip down to Notthside and grab a sandwich or Piroshki and then have Lunch at the Rose garden nearby.
Eventually this friendship got more serious. .However she was not single and our relationship was not open. She had a son and partner.
What was very coincidental was that Ann was born on the exact same date as I was, same month day year probably just a few miles and hours apart.
Eventually we decided to dial back the romance as it was not mentally healthy for me in particular to continue an Affair. Annie gave me a cute little trinket she called an earthquake detector. 1 inch square block of redwood with a red ball on the end of a spring.
I liked Annie a lot, I hope she made a good choice to keep her family intact.
Born on the same day was interesting there was a very lot in common .almost like talking to yourself .
